Halloween Decorations Let Your Imagination Run
Lots of people love to decorate their home for Halloween. Debatably, more creativity is involved with Halloween decorations than any other holiday. “Scary” is such a broad spectrum that you can take it in almost any direction you like.
Of course there are a variety of levels for how scary you can make your decorations. When deciding how eerie you want your house to look, take into account what you’ll be doing for Halloween. If you’re going to be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, you may want to hold back a bit and not make your front lawn too foreboding. If however you’re having an adult Halloween party, you can feel free to really let loose with your Halloween decorations, especially inside the house.
If you’re going to be handing candy to children; stick with modest jack-o’-lanterns and “bed sheet” ghosts. Keep in mind that while lots of kids like to be scared on Halloween, it doesn’t take much to scare them too much and you don’t want to overdo it. If you want to do something really creative and eerie, like a motion activated guillotine that cuts the head off a mannequin, you might want to save that for the adult party later at night.
When deciding what kind of decorations you should use you have limitless options. Anyone is welcome to decorate the outside of their house but if you plan to throw a Halloween party you should also consider decorating the inside of your house. Take into account whether your party has a theme or not. This will effect what kind of decorations you’ll pick. Some people like to throw Halloween parties based around a specific scary movie or monster, and you should choose decorations that match.
A good example is a vampire themed Halloween party. Vampires have always been a Halloween favorite and in recent years their popularity has risen even more. One of the most popular images attached to the vampire is the coffin. Real coffins are extremely expensive and building one yourself in the garage takes a lot of time and know-how. But, there are novelty coffins available for purchase at Halloween stores. Also, if you have a low table with the basic design of a simple rectangular coffin, you can drape a white sheet over it to imply there is a coffin underneath. Another idea you might try for the vampire theme is to distribute glasses filled with red wine.
The zombie is also a classic movie monster that is once again on this rise of popularity. Lots of Halloween stores sell replicas of severed body parts, and this can be a great decoration for a zombie themed party. The basic concept for a zombie party is that you want things to look post-apocalyptic. There are special stickers you can put on your window to make it look like bullets were shot through it. Some Halloween stores also sell blood splatters that can be temporarily stuck to the wall, so that it appears people were shooting zombies inside the house.
Or you might want to go for something more unique than a well-known movie monster. Some people base their parties on horrors that actually occurred in the real world, such as menacing and dark mental asylums from long ago. Party guests can be encouraged to show up in strait-jackets and tattered prison wear. On tables you can have scattered metal tools coved in fake blood, implying that lobotomies have been taking place. Using basic speakers hidden from view you can play the effect of a hollowing echo; the screams of madness traveling down the corridors of your ominous asylum.
